We ordered takeouts for lunch every once in a while just because it’s close by. And got the feeling that they (at the front desk) often give minority customers cold shoulders but give other customers smiling faces (right after) to the point I felt the need to let others know. It’s ironic that it’s an Asian restaurant!

We arrived @9 on a Fri night and there were no customers and a few take out orders waiting. We ordered 2 rolls, the one with shrimp tempura was cold. The other was just ok. We told the staff that we expected a tempura roll to at least have freshly prepared shrimp that were warm and they offered to make a new roll, but we declined and paid our bill without ordering anything for desert.

Unfortunately, my experience at Masa 8 was disappointing. First, the waitstaff came across as rude and unwelcoming, making us feel like we were inconveniencing them rather than being valued customers. The restaurant would benefit from investing in customer service training. Second, the dining area is quite small, which can make the experience feel cramped. Most importantly, the food did not live up to expectations. The quality and taste were average at best and did not justify the visit. Overall, I would not return based on this experience.

The restaurant is extremely small and felt cramped right away, but the biggest issue was how rushed and uncomfortable the entire experience felt from start to finish. Within 2 minutes of sitting down, we were already being asked if we were ready to order. It immediately gave the impression that the goal was to rush us through the meal as quickly as possible — take the order, bring the food, get paid, and turn the table. We ordered hibachi dinners, and I had the steak and scallops. The food was another major disappointment. A large portion of the steak came out cold or at best room temperature, which made it seem like it had been cooked ahead of time and not prepared fresh. For a hibachi dinner, that is completely unacceptable. What made the experience worse was how uncomfortable the service felt the entire time. Staff kept hovering around the table, standing over our shoulders, and watching while we ate. It felt less like attentive service and more like they were waiting for us to finish so they could immediately clear plates and move us out. Great little Japanese restaurant in Ewing. The sushi was awesome. Wasnt impressed with the one-note squid appetizer but the udon was filled with umami flavor. The fried ice cream was very good. Staff was friendly in this small, clean, and dimly-lit restaurant. Great place to come for weekday dinners. EDIT - APRIL 2022 Been coming here for a long time now and it's now my go-to place for sushi. Their sushi is consistently fresh and delicious and their 2 special roll deal is excellent. I think I've tried every roll they have to offer and they're all very delicious. Highly recommend.
